Children living in a home where there is abuse may be physically or sexually abused themselves, at risk of becoming abused or of becoming an abuser. In addition, when children witness family/partner abuse, they often suffer psychological consequences that may have lifelong implications.
Youth safety is our number one priority. Youth are given a voice in what services they receive through us. Our sub focus is on helping youth understand healthy relationships, healthy boundaries, and protective behaviors. We focus on these through one on one advocacy and group settings.
Cody Warner is the Youth Services Coordinator and Lori Weinert is the Youth Services Assistant for the Youth Program. All of our staff and volunteers undergo extensive training and a background check before working with any client. Our staff and volunteers are continuosly training in various areas from trauma-informed care to cultural comptency to updated laws regarding sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, and elder abuse.
It is the Youth Program's policy to ensure the safety of the youths and protective parent. With that we also help facilitate discussions between the parent and their children to help the family, as a whole, heal through the taumas they have endured. To do this we have a parenting group (Wrap Around Parents) to provide support for parents, we have a family survey to address the needs of the family members, and partaking in family group sessions to encourage discussion about some difficult topics.
