Grant County Support Group

Updated: Jul 21, 2021

By Norma Grinnell, Client Services Advocate

Family Advocates is resuming our in-person support groups for victims of abuse. These sessions bring survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse and elder abuse together in a safe space to discuss the struggles of being a survivor, the impact that it has in your life and to support each other through the healing journey. Survivors share coping techniques, resources and just help each other through the rough patches in life.

Creating art in a group setting can help alleviate feelings of depression and isolation. It can also help to build self-esteem, confidence and self-awareness. Survivors will examine feelings and thoughts surrounding their trauma by making various art projects led by facilitators.

The following Monday evenings will be our summer schedule: July 12th and 26th and August 9th and 23rd. Dinner will be provided at 5PM and group session will be from 5:30-7pm. Adults and children are encouraged to attend; after dinner, adult survivors have a separate group session from the child survivors.

Group sessions are held at the Family Advocates building at 250 North Court Street in Platteville.
